Senator Jarigbe Agom, a member representing Cross River State Northern Senatorial District in the Senate has launched a scathing attack on the immediate past governor, Sen Ben Ayade accusing him of “looting for 8 years without completing one known useful or functional project.”
In a statement released on Wednesday via his FaceBook wall, Senator Agom expressed outrage at the former governor’s alleged lobbying for a ministerial appointment, stating, “That is what gives him the impetus to be lobbying for a ministerial appointment. Do we know how many lives we have lost to maladministration and deprivation of the people to satisfy other people’s quest for primitive acquisition?”
The PDP senator further questioned the effectiveness of the state’s “food-on-the-table” program, alleging it was “a manipulative ploy to distract our people because of the fear of hunger.” He argued that the program diverted resources from more essential projects, asking, “We compromised our future and development of the State for rice and beans. What was the percentage of the total income of the State, spent on food on the table? It was a very negligible percentage. Where did the rest of the funds go to?”
Senator Agom also raised concerns about the state’s current financial situation and the alleged lack of resources for the new government. He demanded accountability from anti-graft agencies, stating, “The Anti-Graft Agencies should answer Cross Riverians. It is time for us to ask questions and it’s time for answers to be given. What happened to the litany of Petitions before EFCC?”
The senator’s statement has sparked heated debate in Cross River State, with many citizens taking to social media to express their views. Some have voiced support for Senator Agom’s call for an investigation, while others have defended the former governor’s record.
This latest development adds to the ongoing political tension in Cross River State, as the new government grapples with the challenges inherited from the previous administration. The allegations made by Senator Agom are likely to be the subject of further scrutiny and debate in the coming days and weeks.
