TheInvestigator Journalism Hub Unveils Monthly Masterclass

The masterclass first episode will cover sourcing for story ideas, pitching stories to media outlets, and other investigative journalism techniques.

TheInvestigator Journalism Development and Innovation Hub is hosting a journalism masterclass on investigative journalism every last Saturday of the month beginning from January 27, 2024, from 3-4pm. The event will be held online via Google Meet.

The masterclass first episode will cover sourcing for story ideas, pitching stories to media outlets, and other investigative journalism techniques. The speakers for the event include Violet Ikong and Lawrence Peter.

TheInvestigator Journalism Development and Innovation Hub is located in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, it provides mentorship to journalists and development workers, coworking space, conference room, and research services.

According to the hub director, Jeremiah Archibong the “masterclass is aimed at building capacities of investigative journalists, provide mentorship as well as link with funds and other support needed to do better stories.”

On the uniqueness of the hub he said “We are not just focused on journalists, we also provide development workers with the same services. We also work with communities to help them become drivers on issues of good governance.”

The hub director reiterated that the masterclass is designed to help journalists develop the skills they need to do investigative reporting.

“Investigative journalism is essential for holding governments and corporations accountable,” Jeremiah said. “This masterclass will give journalists the tools they need to do this important work.”

The masterclass is for only journalists working in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria and is free to attend, but registration is required. To register, click here.

The hub was commissioned by the Cross River State chapter Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Nsa Gill.

The State Chapter Chairman of Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Mr. Ben Okache, Cross River Civil Societies Network Coordinator, Leader Ben Usang, and other dignitaries were present at the commissioning.
