Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has been lauded for his transformative efforts in revitalizing golf, signaling a major stride in the state’s sports and tourism development.

Lady Anne Ene Ita, Chairperson of the Calabar Golf Club Project Committee, commended the governor’s foresight and commitment during an address in Calabar. She highlighted the strategic importance of golf as a platform for leisure, health, and global networking. “Governor Otu’s leadership in recognizing the potential of golf is a testament to his vision for a vibrant Cross River State,” she remarked.

As a retired federal permanent secretary and Female Captain of the Calabar Golf Club, Lady Ene Ita reassured stakeholders of the project’s commitment to excellence. “The state government’s support has been pivotal, and we are working tirelessly to ensure this project meets world-class standards,” she said.

Engr. Francis Archibong, the project’s supervising consultant, detailed the progress of the upgrades designed to elevate the Calabar Golf Club to an international standard. The improvements include over 900 meters of perimeter fencing nearing completion, extensive clubhouse renovations such as roofing, electrical installations, painting, and the creation of a modern reception area.

Additional features under development include a new gatehouse, a caddies’ shed, and a modernized parking lot, all advancing steadily.

This marks the first significant government investment in the Calabar Golf Club since its establishment in 1991, underscoring Governor Otu’s dedication to advancing sports and boosting tourism in the state.

The initiative has been met with widespread enthusiasm from golf enthusiasts and stakeholders, who regard it as a transformative step toward redefining Cross River State’s sports and recreational landscape.
