The Deputy Caretaker Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Cross River State, Mr Jallo Egbeji, has rejected his suspension by the party’s State Working Committee (SWC). He called it “illegal”, “inconsequential” and sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a series of WhatsApp messages on Tuesday, 20 October with TheInvestigator, Mr Jallo responded to a notice dated 7 October. The notice, signed by the State Chairman, Mr Godwin Efa, and the State Secretary, Mr Asuquo Ekpo, suspended him for three months from the State Executive Committee. It also barred him from performing any official function or representing the party, pending a disciplinary process.
Jallo said the notice was not addressed to him. He said he was also not copied on it, and that the party had flagged his name in a way he described as potentially libellous. He did not say whether he intends to take legal action.
He also argued that the notice carries the wrong name. The document refers to a “Mr John Jallo Egbegi”, while he said his name is Egbeji. “My name was wrongly spelt, which means it is not me,” he said.
Jallo alleged that the suspension was sponsored by the APC. He offered no evidence for the claim, which the APC has not addressed.
He accused the party of taking its notice to online bloggers in a hurry.
The SWC notice did not state what conduct led to the suspension. It refers only to Jalo’s “activities and conduct” on “various platforms”.
