The African Action Congress (AAC) in Cross River State has concluded its primary election for the Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency, with Peter Ibe emerging as the party’s candidate ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
The primary election, which was held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, took place at the Open Field of Sacred Heart Primary School, Agwagune, in Biase Local Government Area. The exercise followed an earlier notification sent by the party to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), inviting the commission to monitor the process.
Party officials and delegates from across the constituency participated in the exercise, which was conducted under the supervision of designated electoral officers of the party.
Speaking after his emergence, Peter Ibe expressed appreciation to delegates and party faithful for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to provide quality representation and champion the interests of the people of Akamkpa and Biase Federal Constituency if elected.
He also called on supporters of the party to remain united and committed ahead of the general election campaign.
The AAC leadership in the state described the primary as peaceful, transparent, and in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.
Announcing the result, the Returning Officer, Comrade Jonathan Ugbal, said Ibe’s unopposed emergence was not unexpected, noting that all registered members in the constituency took part in the process.
“The AAC use a digital process. We began digitising our activities long before other parties. Members’ IDs are scanned and primary elections are conducted in line with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act,” Ugbal told newsmen.
