The Cross River State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended its Deputy State Caretaker Chairman, Mr John Jallo Egbegi, for three months. The party cited his “activities and conduct” on various platforms.
The State Working Committee (SWC) decided at a meeting in Calabar on Wednesday, 7 October 2026. It announced the suspension the same day in an official notice signed by the State Chairman, Mr Godwin Efa, and the State Secretary, Mr Asuquo Ekpo.
According to the notice, Mr Egbegi is suspended from the State Executive Committee and barred from performing any official function or representing the party in any capacity. The suspension lasts until the disciplinary process concludes. The SWC said it acted under Article 46.2(L) of the ADC constitution.
The decision followed “extensive and exhaustive deliberations” on his activities on “various platforms”.
The party described the suspension as “administrative” and subject to the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings. It said Mr Egbegi has been referred to the appropriate Disciplinary Committee and will be allowed to respond to the allegations and present his defence, in line with “fair hearing, natural justice, and due process”.
The SWC urged all members and supporters to avoid actions or statements that could prejudice the process. It also called on leaders, stakeholders and members to remain calm, united and disciplined.
The party said its leadership “remains committed to discipline, internal democracy, unity, fairness, and strict adherence to the Constitution of the Party.”
Mr Egbegi had not publicly responded to the suspension at the time of this report.
