The First Lady of Cross River State, Bishop Eyoanwan Edet Otu, has commissioned a borehole project in the Umoh Edem community, Calabar South Local Government Area, as part of efforts to ensure a constant water supply and promote healthy living.

The project, themed “Constant Water Supply for All,” was facilitated by Hon Efa Nyong, Chairman of the Calabar Transport Regulatory Agency (CTRA), in collaboration with Hon Hogan Ekpenyong, Councillor representing Ward One and Leader of the Calabar South Legislative Council.

The wife of the governor, represented by Mrs Queeneth Essien, SA Project, commended the facilitator, urging others to emulate him. She said access to clean water is a basic human right and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting community development and humanitarian initiatives.

Barrister Mensah Bassey, Commissioner for Water Resources, also commended Hon Efa for the gesture. After urging the residents of the community to maintain the water infrastructure, he thanked the first lady for leading the way.

Chairman of Calabar South LGA, Pastor Patrick Archibong, in his address, said the project aligns with the government’s broader agenda of delivering essential services and improving living standards across the state.

Also speaking, the Clan Head of Umoh Edem Royal House, HRM Etubom Edem, expressed gratitude to the First Lady and facilitators for ending the community’s long struggle with water scarcity.

Residents have expressed optimism that the project will ease the challenge of water scarcity in their communities while complementing the government’s ongoing efforts to expand public utilities.
