In a recent development, the FCT Police Command has arrested a notorious armed robbery kingpin along with four other members of his gang. The police also recovered several exhibits from the suspects, including locally fabricated rifles, pistols, and ammunition.

The arrested kingpin has been identified as Chukwuemeka Oputa, also known as Pounds and Dollar, a 38-year-old man from Umuaka, Njaba, Imo State. He is the leader of the gang responsible for a series of armed robberies and other heinous crimes in FCT.

The arrest of Oputa and his accomplices was following the apprehension of Moses Hassan, a cultist, and a member of the armed robbery gang, on February 14, 2024. The police investigation subsequently led to the arrest of three other gang members, namely Praise Etta, 30 years ‘old, of Etung, Cross River State; Rafael Dav A.K.A. Raffy, 28 years old, of Guma, Benue State; and Thomas Akange, 38 years ‘old, of Makurdi, Benue State, who have confessed to being involved in a series of armed robberies and other heinous crimes in FCT.

The suspects have also been identified as members of a confraternity cult group called Vikings. The FCT Police Command has reiterated its commitment to making FCT inhabitable for criminals and urged residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police emergency lines.

The exhibits recovered from the suspects include four locally fabricated AK47 rifles, three locally made rifles using cartridges, an English pistol, one locally made pistol, a Dane gun, and three AK47 ammunitions, a 5.56mm assault ammunition, and an empty cartridge.

Efforts are on to recover other exhibits in possession of the suspects.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, has commended the police operatives for their efforts and urged them to continue the fight against crime in FCT.
