Comrade Butum Spera has withdrawn from the race for the Cross River State House of Assembly seat for Yakurr 1 Constituency, citing the need to prioritise unity and the collective interest of the people.
Spera, in a statement announcing his decision, said the move followed “careful reflection, extensive consultations and deep consideration” of the prevailing political realities. He stressed that leadership was not always about personal ambition but about making decisions that promote unity, progress and the future of the constituency.
Following his withdrawal, Spera declared his support for Barrister James Ibor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Yakurr 1. He urged his supporters, friends and associates to respect the decision and join him in supporting what he described as a peaceful, united and progressive political direction for the constituency.
Spera thanked his supporters for their sacrifices and confidence in his candidacy, assuring them that his commitment to the development of Yakurr 1 remained firm. He also congratulated Ibor and wished him success, saying, “For me, the interest of our people comes first.”
