President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has publicly acknowledged a solidarity rally organized in his support by the City Boy Movement in Cross River State, a development supporters say reflects the growing national relevance of the group ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The recognition came during the President’s acceptance speech on Monday, where he specifically mentioned the solidarity walk staged by members of the movement in Cross River.
The acknowledgment has since generated reactions within political circles in the South-South region, with supporters describing it as a sign of the increasing influence of the movement under the leadership of Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, popularly known as Suki.
According to a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the City Boy Movement in Cross River State, Dr Inyali Peter, the President’s mention of the rally demonstrates that the activities of the group have gained visibility at the national level.
The statement noted that the South-South chapter of the movement, coordinated by Senator Ekpenyong and led in the state by Eyo Ita Okon, has emerged as one of the strongest grassroots political mobilization structures supporting President Tinubu ahead of the next presidential election.
The group also linked the growing support among youths in Cross River State to what it described as visible governance outcomes under Governor Bassey Otu. It cited ongoing infrastructure renewal, tourism development and economic stabilization efforts as factors contributing to increasing public confidence in the administration.
Speaking further, the statement praised Senator Ekpenyong’s representation in the Senate, highlighting his interventions in infrastructure, youth empowerment, educational scholarships and support for small businesses.
It added that the senator’s legislative contributions and policy engagements have strengthened his political profile nationally and inspired confidence among many young people in the state.
