The Cross River State Chapter of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN) has lifted its ban on electioneering activities ahead of the forthcoming state, senatorial, local government and ward elections.
The directive, issued by the State Ambassador and National Chief Whip, Amb Raymond Okpani Sylvanus and made available to our newsroom, takes immediate effect and authorises all duly qualified aspirants to commence campaigns.
According to a statement issued by the chapter, all electioneering activities must be conducted in strict compliance with the Constitution, Electoral Guidelines and Code of Conduct of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria.
Sylvanus reaffirmed the chapter’s commitment to ensuring a credible, transparent and inclusive electoral process, urging aspirants to base their campaigns on issues, integrity, discipline and respect for democratic principles.
He also cautioned members against divisive politics, instead calling for healthy competition that advances the collective vision and objectives of the Assembly.
The outgoing State Speaker, Rt. Hon. Walter Arek, similarly urged members to approach the electoral process with maturity, responsibility, and sportsmanship.
Arek stressed that the strength of the Assembly goes beyond the election of leaders, noting that preserving its unity, institutional integrity and commitment to youth development should remain paramount before, during and after the elections.
