Mrs Mercy Nsor, the Chairman of Ikom Local Government Area, has sympathised with traders in the Ikom central market over the fire incident that occurred on Sunday, January 12, 2025. She urged them to be vigilant and cautious to avoid a recurrence.

The Chairman stated this when she visited the market on the spot to assess the extent of the damage. She thanked the traders for timely intervention in ensuring no life was lost.

In his response, the Chairman of A-Line, Mr Effiong Okon Etu revealed that the cause of the fire was the unnecessary burning of refuse within/around the shop’s premises, even though that is not allowed in the market.

He solicited the Government to rebuild the burnt shops and provide good firefighting equipment for the market.

A victim, Mr James Etta, appreciated the Ikom Council Chairman and her team for coming to their rescue.

With the Chairman during the visit were the Vice Chairman of Council Mr Maurice Ndome, Secretary of Council Edo Owan, Director of Works Mr Stanley Obim, SA Peace and Security Mr Agbor Esija, Supervisor for Environment Mr Osim Nkwam, Supervisor for Works Mr Ogar Enagu, Chief Protocol to Chairman Mr Nsor Odey,  and the Press Secretary to Chairman, Mr Ntem Chris and a host of others.
