Oqua Otop Village in Idundu Qua Clan, Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, has officially elected and recognized Mr Okon Bassey Asuquo as the Youth Leader of the community.
The recognition was formalized during a community event held today, where Mr Asuquo was presented with a Certificate of Recognition, confirming his election and mandate to oversee youth affairs in the village.
Mr Asuquo is expected to coordinate youth activities, promote unity among young people, and represent their interests in community development matters for a tenure of three years.
Speaking during the presentation, the Village Head of Oqua Otop, His Highness Asuquo Bassey Effiom, charged the new youth leader to provide responsible leadership, foster peace, and mobilize youths towards initiatives that will advance the growth and progress of the community.
He said “Being a Youth Leader is demanding, remember that you’re not a tool to be used for violence. You’re to be a good example to others.”
On his part, Mr Michael Nse Emmanuel, Parade Commander of Professional Hunters Association of Nigeria, Akpabuyo section pledged to work closely with the youth leader to achieve lasting peace and chase criminal elements away.
He warned that no stone would be left unturned to ensure the community and local government enjoys peace.
Community members expressed confidence in Mr Asuquo’s ability to lead, describing his emergence as a reflection of the trust and support he enjoys among the youths of Oqua Otop Village.
In his response, the newly recognized Youth Leader thanked the village leadership and youths for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to work diligently to promote youth empowerment, community development, and peaceful coexistence within the village.
