Troops of the 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued four abducted civilians in Bakassi, Cross River State following a decisive waterborne operation on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

The rescue took place during a routine patrol aimed at restricting the movement of criminal elements along strategic waterways. According to military authorities, soldiers intercepted armed militants transporting the kidnapped victims via speedboat towards Isangele, Achibong, across the border into Cameroon.

Upon sighting the patrol, the militants reportedly opened fire in a bid to escape. The troops engaged them with superior firepower, forcing the assailants to abandon the victims and disappear into nearby creeks.

The Army confirmed that all four victims were rescued unharmed, along with their belongings, and no casualties were recorded among the soldiers.

Reacting to the operation, Commander 13 Brigade, Brigadier General P.O. Alimikhena praised the troops for their professionalism, courage and vigilance. He said the successful rescue was a testament to the brigade’s operational readiness and renewed commitment to protecting residents of Cross River State.

He reaffirmed that the 13 Brigade remains determined to dismantle criminal networks within coastal and riverine communities.

The statement was issued by Major Yemi Sokoya, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Calabar.
