Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect In Calabar, Recover Firearm And Hard Drugs

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber in Calabar, recovering a firearm, live ammunition, and hard drugs in the process.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ugbo Irene, the arrest followed a distress call received at about 10:47 a.m. from a community leader at Edim Otop Street, Calabar, reporting a case of armed robbery.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Daniel Etim Udoh, allegedly attacked and stabbed his victim, Mr Sunday Ofem of No. 6 Boropit, Satellite Town, before dispossessing him of valuables. Officers from the Command’s Anti-Cultism Squad were swiftly mobilized to the scene, where the suspect was apprehended.

A search on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, one live cartridge, a pair of scissors believed to have been used during the attack, assorted hard drugs, and other incriminating items.

However, the police disclosed that the suspect attempted to escape during interrogation at the station. He was shot in the left leg to prevent his escape and was subsequently re-arrested. Both the suspect and the victim were taken to the police clinic, where they are said to be responding to treatment.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid Afegbua commended the swift response of the officers and assured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating crime in the state. He urged members of the public to continue collaborating with the police by providing timely and credible information.

The Command confirmed that an investigation into the case has commenced.
