Attah Ochinke, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, has resigned from the party, citing a loss of purpose and internal strife within the party.

In a resignation letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of the PDP in Buentsebe Ward, Boki Local Government Area, Ochinke expressed deep disappointment over the party’s direction and the frustrations of being unable to influence change.

“It is my view that the party has lost purpose and completely abdicated its role in Nigeria’s democracy. As Nigeria’s main opposition party, the party has ensured the absence of opposition,” he wrote.

Ochinke, who had been a loyal and committed member of the PDP, noted that internal wranglings and intractable skirmishes for control at various levels had become the primary focus of the party, sidelining its core objectives.

“Over the years, I gave the party undiluted loyalty and commitment because I believed in the objectives of the party. But the ways of the party today confound me,” he added.

He thanked the party for the opportunities granted him but made it clear that his frustrations with the current state of affairs had made his continued membership untenable.

Ochinke is a former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Calabar branch.
