Cross River: STG-WASH Members Trained To Improve Water, Sanitation And Hygiene Services

Some of the STG-WASH members who spoke to our reporter acknowledged that their capacity has been improved.

The Cross River State Ministry of Water Resources in partnership with Society for Water and Sanitation (NEWSAN) and Self Help Africa (SHA), with support from the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO), has improved the capacity of the State Task Group on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (STG-WASH).

From February 19 to 22, 2025, a four-day capacity improvement workshop was organised at Hotel 45 in Ikom for the newly inaugurated STG–WASH.

In closing the workshop, Mrs Ayuba Kogbara, Deputy Director of Hygiene Promotion in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, charged the STG-WASH members to carry out their duties diligently.

She added “It’s been a blissful week, We’ve learnt a lot and it should not end here, take it forward. We want to hear good news in the headquarters. This training is the second of its kind in Nigeria.” 

The Chairman of the State Task Group on WASH (STG-WASH) and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Engr Okon Ita commended the  Society for Water and Sanitation and Self Help Africa for their support. 

“Big shout out to the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, NEWSAN and Self Help Africa.” The elated chairman said.

Engr Ita committed to ensuring that no stone is left unturned to improve WASH services in the state. 

To his STG-WASH members he said “What you have learnt here today will take you to a higher platform that will improve WASH services in Cross River State.”

Earlier, Mr John Wali, Programmes Manager of WASH System for Health Programme thanked the Cross River State Government for the commitment.

Mr John thanked the STG-WASH members for their dedication and urged them not to relent.

Some of the STG-WASH members who spoke to our reporter acknowledged that their capacity has been improved. They pledged to be good ambassadors in improving access to WASH services in Cross River.
