After a dramatic session involving punches, a seizure of the mace, and a subsequent announcement of the impeachment of Speaker Elvert Ayambem, the Cross River State House Assembly has maintained that he remains Speaker. 

Despite a two-thirds majority of 17 members out of 25 passing a vote of no confidence on the Speaker, citing financial misappropriation and misconduct, the House has upheld his position.
