The ongoing crisis in the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has been described as a phase that will lead to greatness. Dr. Inyali Peter, the National President of the UNICROSS Alumni Association and a Member of the Governing Council asserted in a Facebook post.
He called for calm maintaining that when the storm is over, the true picture of the multi-dimensional crisis would be clearer.
In the post which was promoted on his timeline, the UNICROSS Alumni President said “As we navigate this tumultuous period, it’s important to remember that UNICROSS is not defined by its current struggles.”
It would be recalled that the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Augustine Angba was recently suspended by the Governing Council and Prof. Stephen Ncha Ochang as acting Vice Chancellor. The SUG President, Ogbodim Udop Humphrey was also suspended by the Parliament for protesting the VC suspension.

It is now public knowledge that the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) is ensnared in a serious crisis that’s shaking its very foundation. Students, staff, and other stakeholders are concerned but it’s okay. In the midst of turmoil, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed and uncertain about the future. But worry not, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.
For those familiar with happenings in the university, the faceoff between alumni and governing council/ management, council and management, management and staff/unions, etc didn’t come as a surprise. The issues were always there and waiting for when to explode. And many of us are happy that the phase is finally here. Knowing what we know, we can say that this is a very necessary period for the institution to transit to a higher level. This may sound vague to some people but sooner than later, the picture will become clearer.
Besides, it’s essential to remember that crisis often precedes transformation and growth. As the university navigates its current challenges, it’s crucial to recognize that this too shall pass, and something remarkable is on the horizon. History has shown that periods of crisis can be catalysts for innovation, renewal, and resurgence. When faced with adversity, individuals and institutions are forced to adapt, evolve, and rediscover their strengths. It’s in these moments that we uncover hidden resilience, creativity, and determination.
UNICROSS, with its rich legacy, commitment to excellence, and a Visitor/Governor who truly cares, is poised to emerge from its current challenges stronger and more vibrant than ever. The institution has a proven track record of overcoming obstacles and thriving in the face of adversity.
As we navigate this tumultuous period, it’s important to remember that UNICROSS is not defined by its current struggles. Instead, it’s the collective efforts, dedication, and passion of its community that will propel it forward. And for us as alumni, we believe that the institution is at its takeoff point to greatness. The institution’s potential for greatness is inherent, waiting to be unlocked by revolutionary situations like what’s happening now and the collective efforts of its stakeholders.
When the storm subsides, even those who out of ignorance misconstrue what’s happening will be proud that it happened because UNICROSS will rise anew, revitalized, and rejuvenated. The crisis will give way to innovation, progress, and a renewed sense of purpose at all levels. The institution will continue to nurture minds, foster creativity, and shape the leaders of tomorrow.
In the face of uncertainty, let us draw strength from our shared vision and values. Let us embrace the crisis as an opportunity for growth, learning, and transformation. Let’s see it as an opportunity to recalibrate, restructure, and reposition the university for the restructuring the Governor Otu’s administration is bringing on board.
UNICROSS will be great again, and its resurgence will be a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and collective effort; efforts that will eliminate disrespect and rather usher in mutual respect amongst the alumni, management, council, and indeed, the entire university community. Never again, shall any stakeholder be disrespected or treated unjustly by a privileged few!
Together, we will weather the storm and emerge stronger, more united, and more dedicated to our shared pursuit of excellence. The future of UNICROSS that we see is bright, and its greatness is inevitable.
