In a sudden turn of events, the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) announced the appointment of Professor Stephen Ncha Ochang as acting vice chancellor on May 7, 2024.
This follows the suspension of the former vice-chancellor, Professor Augustine Oko Angba, by the University Governing Council.
Professor Angba’s suspension paves the way for an investigation into the disbursement of staff salaries between 2020 and 2023. The specifics of the alleged irregularities are yet to be made public.
Professor Ochang will assume the role of acting vice chancellor until the investigation into the financial dealings is complete.
The university community is urged to extend their full cooperation to the new leadership during this interim period.
