He urged the Cross River State Government to take advantage of this momentum by promptly conducting the long-overdue local government elections.

By TheInvestigator

Dr Ekpenyong Ambo, Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Cross River State and Chairman of the Local Government Affairs and Election Monitoring Committee for the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in the State, has praised the Federal Government of Nigeria for its efforts in promoting financial autonomy for local governments.

In a letter dated July 11, 2024, addressed to the Federal Government, Dr Ambo lauded this initiative as a crucial step toward fostering grassroots development and enhancing accountability.

Dr Ambo emphasized the importance of this autonomy, noting that it would significantly contribute to the decentralization of power and the promotion of democratic development across the nation.

He urged the Cross River State Government to take advantage of this momentum by promptly conducting the long-overdue local government elections.

In his letter, Dr Ambo mentioned that the IPAC Cross River has meticulously documented the state government’s utilization of local government funds over the past ten months.

He assured that this information would be thoroughly examined to ensure that appropriate actions are taken to maintain transparency and accountability.

Dr Ambo concluded his message by extending his congratulations to the Federal Government for its commitment to decentralizing power and enhancing local governance.

He called for collaboration to ensure that resources are effectively channeled to the grassroots level, where they are most needed.
