Cross River Deputy Governor Odey Inspect New LG Service Commission Building Project

The deputy governor was accompanied on the visit by the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Chief Victor Felix Idem.

On Tuesday, the Deputy Governor of Cross River, Dr Peter Odey, embarked on an unscheduled visit to the ongoing construction of a new Local Government Service Commission Secretariat in Calabar.

Addressing newsmen during the visit, the Deputy Governor said the inspection was to ascertain the level of work done. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on ground by the contractor and expressed optimism that the work will be completed soon.

Odey who was conducted round the facility during the inspection by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Professor Godwin Akeke, reiterated the commitment of the ‘People First’ Governor to bringing rapid infrastructural development to the state and create a more conducive and professional environment workspace that can boost staff morale.

Professor Akeke, who also serves as the Chairman of the Project Implementation Committee, disclosed that the project is 60% complete. He mentioned that materials such as tiles, POP, plumbing, and electrical fittings are already on site, ready to bring the project to completion. He assured the Deputy Governor that the contractors would complete and deliver the job within a few months.

The deputy governor was accompanied on the visit by the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Chief Victor Felix Idem.

The Local Government Service Commission building will not only house the commission’s offices but will accommodate liaison offices for all 18 Local Government Areas, conference rooms and recreational facilities that will be available for use by external persons and groups.
