Youths, women and political stakeholders from Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency have made a passionate appeal to Governor Bassey Otu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, urging them to support the re-election bid of the member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr Emil Inyang, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The stakeholders, under the aegis of the Akamkpa/Biase Youth Movement, also called on the governor to intervene in emerging divisions within the APC in the constituency, warning that internal disagreements could undermine party unity and weaken electoral strength ahead of future polls.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr Daniel Enang from Ehom Ward in Biase Local Government Area commended Governor Otu for what he described as his transformational leadership and notable developmental strides across Cross River State.

He noted that youths from Akamkpa and Biase played a significant role in the emergence of the current administration and remain committed to sustaining the progress and stability of the APC in the state.

“We are here as youths of Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency to passionately appeal to His Excellency to restore unity within the party. The level of division we are witnessing is unprecedented and could be dangerous ahead of future elections,” he said.

Enang further appealed to Governor Otu and the APC leadership to support Dr Emil Inyang’s second-term ambition, citing what he described as visible representation and impactful constituency projects across the federal constituency.

He listed some of the lawmaker’s achievements to include the installation of over 24 solar-powered boreholes, empowerment of more than 300 Point-of-Sale (POS) beneficiaries, fisheries training and support for over 500 constituents, agricultural grants, and several youth empowerment initiatives.

According to him, the federal lawmaker has also facilitated employment opportunities through the engagement of media aides and liaison officers across the 21 wards in Akamkpa and Biase.

Also speaking, Hon Raphael Egwu from Erei North in Biase Local Government Area described Emil Inyang as a loyal and disciplined party man who has consistently prioritized party unity, including stepping down in previous electoral contests before eventually emerging in 2023.

Egwu noted that even after his election was challenged and later nullified, Emil Inyang returned to the field and was overwhelmingly re-elected, owing to his strong grassroots acceptance and popularity.

He argued that allowing the lawmaker to complete a second term would preserve the existing zoning arrangement and political understanding between Akamkpa and Biase, warning that any disruption could create unnecessary tension within the constituency.

In separate remarks, Ambassador Elvis Eyam, Mrs Ekaette Pius and Akamkpa Youth Leader, Seeker Otu, described Dr Emil as an accessible, inclusive and result-oriented representative who has consistently empowered youths, women and farmers through employment opportunities, agricultural support programmes and constituency interventions.

The stakeholders collectively appealed to Governor Otu to sustain peace and political balance within Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency by supporting Hon. Emil Inyang’s re-election bid in 2027.
