WASH Media Network Hosts Two-Day Radio Town Hall On Water And Gender To Mark World Water Day 2026

The WASH Media Network, Cross River State Chapter, has successfully hosted a two-day radio town hall meeting to commemorate World Water Day 2026, drawing attention to issues of water access, sanitation, and gender equality in the state.

The event, themed “Water and Gender – Where Water Flows Equality Grow,” provided a platform for stakeholders in the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sector to engage the public on policies, service delivery challenges, and the role of inclusive water governance in sustainable development.

The town hall was broadcast live on two radio stations across consecutive days, enabling residents across Cross River State to participate through call-ins and messages.

Day one of the programme was held on Saturday, March 21, 2026, on Sparkling 92.3 FM. The session featured the Commissioner for Water Resources in Cross River State, Bassey Mensah, and the General Manager of the Cross River State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, Oko Sunday Ebeku, who discussed ongoing efforts to expand access to safe water and improve rural sanitation services across communities.

Mrs Angela Ogboaka represented Barrister Mensah, while Mr Ebit Bassey represented Hon Oko.

Day two of the town hall took place on Sunday, March 22, 2026, on Hit 95.9 FM, featuring Lawrence Achuta, and Anthony Kedang, who highlighted the importance of legal frameworks, community participation, and civil society collaboration in advancing water and sanitation rights.

Speaking during the programme, stakeholders emphasised that achieving gender equality in water and sanitation requires sustained investment in infrastructure, behavioural change communication, and stronger partnerships among government agencies, development partners, and community-based organisations.

The two-day radio engagement formed part of activities marking World Water Day 2026. It reinforced the commitment of the WASH Media Network to promoting public awareness, accountability, and inclusive dialogue on water and sanitation issues in Cross River State.

World water day is celebrated every 22nd of March.
