Otu’s Aide, Sylvester Abang Emerges Club President, Promises Unity

The new President of Charging Club Point also hinted of his administration’s desire to engage in political activities as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The State Chief of Protocol to governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, Mr Sylvester Abang has emerged president of the Charging Point Club International.

Mr Abang was elected as the 3rd president of the club during an election conducted recently in Calabar. Announcing the results of the election, a member of the electoral committee Mr Elvis Okorn who stood-in for the secretary of the committee described the emergence of Mr Abang as a very peaceful and transparent process and one without rancour.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Abang said he was overwhelmed by the love and acceptance of the club members by their unanimous support and promised to ensure the club is united and taken higher.

“I want to appreciate the members of the club for this confidence to lead. Having been a member of this club from inception in 2018, I have been very diligent and focused, contributing in every aspect to the successes of this club. Now that you have given me the mandate to lead, I assure you that I will never let you down. I work hard to ensure that we unite the club, move swiftly to expand the membership of the club as well as continue to do more humanitarian activities for the society.

“Let me assure you that I will not allow my personal interest to influence my character as president of this club. I will also ensure that every member are treated equally as rightful members of this club. He said.

The new President of Charging Club Point also hinted of his administration’s desire to engage in political activities as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.

He noted that the club has produced notable political leaders like the current chairman of Ogoja LGA, Hon Chris Abeg, acting chairman of Bekwarra LGA, Hon Egbung Odam etc, he also mentioned that many other political leaders have indicated interest to join the club.

Among other notable dignitaries who witnessed the inauguration of the new President were the State Commissioner for Information, Mr Erasmus Ekpang, Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Edem Darlington, Special Assistant to the governor on communication, Mr Nathaniel Otaba and the Special Assistant to the governor on new media, Mr Andrea Ekeng.
