Yakurr LG Chairman Seeks Stronger Military Collaboration To Boost Security

In a bid to enhance the security of Yakurr Local Government Area, the Council Chairman, Hon Yibala Inyang has taken proactive steps by visiting the Commanding Officer of the Army base, Edor Barracks in Ikom. The visit, aimed at strengthening collaboration with the military, focused on addressing key security challenges facing the area.

Speaking on the purpose of the visit, the Chairman posted on his Facebook page that, “As part of my commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Yakurr Local Government Area, I paid an official visit to the Commanding Officer of Edor Barracks, Ikom. This visit was aimed at strengthening our collaboration with the military to enhance security management in our communities.”

He highlighted critical security concerns, including illegal mining activities, boundary disputes, and a rise in criminal incidents. The Chairman stressed the need for a more coordinated approach between the local government and the military to address these issues effectively.

“During my discussion with the Commanding Officer, I highlighted the pressing security concerns in Yakurr, including illegal mining activities, boundary disputes, and rising criminal incidents. I emphasized the need for a more coordinated effort between the local government and the military to tackle these challenges effectively,” he said.

The Commanding Officer assured the Chairman of the Army’s readiness to support security initiatives in Yakurr, particularly in intelligence gathering, rapid response to threats, and maintaining peace in the area. Both parties explored strategies to improve synergy between the military, local security outfits, and community leaders.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to security, the Chairman added, “Together, we will continue to take decisive steps to protect lives and property while promoting peace and stability in our local government.”

The visit is expected to bolster security measures in Yakurr and promote a safer environment for residents.

The Yakurr local government chairman was accompanied by Barr James Ibor, Principal Counsel, Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI).
