The Chairman of the Northern Cross River Reconciliation Movement, Bernard Ingio, has sharply criticized the recent suspension of two ward chairmen by the Cross River State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barr. Alphonsus Eba. Ingio accuses Eba of violating the APC constitution and calls for his immediate removal.
The controversy stems from Eba’s announcement suspending the Ijiraga and Mfuma Ntrigon ward chairmen. Ingio argues that this action was “hasty, illegal, unconstitutional, and unbecoming” and lacked proper due process.
He cites Article 21 of the APC constitution, which outlines the procedure for disciplinary action against party members. This article mandates a multi-stage process involving fact-finding committees and executive committee approvals, none of which appear to have been followed in this case.
Ingio further accuses Eba of abusing his position by acting as accuser, judge, and jury in this matter. He calls Eba’s actions “arrogant” and “high-handed” and declares the suspensions “null and void.”
The situation highlights internal tensions within the Cross River APC. Ingio’s statement reflects a broader call for Eba’s resignation, arguing that he lacks the leadership qualities necessary to guide the party effectively. He warns that Eba’s actions could lead to “imminent disaster” for the party and urges stakeholders to intervene and demand his removal.
