To improve reportage about the Cross River State Government, digital journalists have been tasked with professionalism.

Mr. Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu made the charge during an interactive session Thursday morning at Hotel 45, State Housing Calabar.

He was accompanied by the SA to the Governor of Communication Mr. Nathaniel Otaba and Mr. Ekeng Inyang, SA New Media.

The interactive session was centered on how digital journalists can fit into the programs of the current administration.

“This administration means business with the people first agenda and the media is a key stakeholder in that direction.” Mr. Edem said.

Mr. Edem, who is the immediate past chairman of the Association of Cross River Online Journalists (ACROJ) revealed that the government has begun the digital mapping of soil across the state to determine what agricultural produce would be suitable for the cultivation on it.

According to him “The government has sent agricultural professionals to various communities across the 18 local government areas of the state to do digital mapping. Then they will determine the soil fertility and the type of crop that will thrive on the soil.”

On his part, Mr. Ekeng Inyang, SA to the governor on New Media maintained that government cannot achieve its goals if the media is not carried along.

He asserted that the image of the governor can be improved or marred by the media hence, the need for collaboration.

Mr. Nathaniel Otaba, SA Communication to Sen. Bassey Otu lauded digital journalists for maintaining ethical standards.

He emphasized the need to always reach out to any government MDA when the need arises rather than speculate.

The gentlemen of the press thanked the aids of the State Governor for interacting with them and pledged to remain ethical and loyal to the people.
