In a strong show of political solidarity, members of the 10th National Assembly (NASS) from Cross River State have thrown their weight behind Governor Bassey Edet Otu, endorsing him for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement took place on Tuesday, May 28th, during a town hall meeting at the Calabar International Conference Centre (CICC), held to commemorate the governor’s two years in office.
Speaking on behalf of the lawmakers, Senator Eteng Jones Williams (Cross River Central), who also leads the Cross River caucus in the National Assembly, described the endorsement as the “original endorsement” by the people’s elected representatives.
“We represent you—our constituents in every local government and senatorial district,” he said. “And having gone round and seen the work this government has done, we are proud to say Governor Otu deserves another term.”
Senator Eteng went on to highlight key achievements of the Otu-led administration in just two years—ranging from security improvements under Operation Okwók to the rehabilitation of abandoned infrastructure like the state library and local government service commission building. He also praised the presence of developmental projects in every part of the state, even in his own village.
“We’re not blind,” he said. “We’ve seen the results and we are convinced. If this is just two years of work, imagine what six more years could do.”
The senator also commended Governor Otu for restoring calm and safety in the state, allowing residents to “sleep with both eyes closed.”
But the endorsements didn’t stop at the state level.
The lawmakers also threw their support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, applauding what they described as bold and courageous leadership—especially with projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the student loan scheme, and reforms in the oil and gas sector.
“If for nothing else, that coastal highway alone is enough reason to endorse Mr President for a second term,” Eteng declared. “We are calling on the APC to adopt him as the sole candidate for 2027.”
The event was graced by dignitaries, traditional rulers, media stakeholders, and citizens from across the state who gathered to take stock of the governor’s performance under his “People First” agenda.
With this loud declaration from the state’s federal lawmakers, it appears the stage is being set early for what could be a smooth re-election campaign for Governor Otu.
