Dan Obo Jnr, the Special Adviser on Youth Mobilisation to the Governor, Sen Bassey Edet Otu, was recently honoured with an award at the Cross River State Political Summit 2025. The summit, themed “Cross River State Today: Current Affairs and Way Forward,” celebrated notable contributions to the development of the state.
Dan is the immediate past State chapter Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
Obo, speaking with TheInvestigator, expressed gratitude to the summit organisers for the recognition, which he deemed “well-deserved and well-earned.” He was represented at the event by Daniel Nelson, former NYCN Abi LGA chapter.
Reflecting on his time in office, Obo highlighted his achievements, noting the challenges he faced and the successes he attained. “In my last year as chairman, I was awarded the best chairman in the country,” he stated, emphasising that his tenure witnessed significant progress. He mentioned that he inherited a council with limited financial resources and operational structures, but left it with a more robust framework, including a tripling of funds from 5 million to 10 million Naira and a comprehensive three-year programme for community engagement.
Obo remarked on the transformation of the council’s relationship with government officials, stating, “I got the council without protocol to the government. I left it with a protocol where a council, as an institution, can effectively interact with the government and other institutions.” He also underscored the shift from a reactive to a proactive council that encouraged political engagement.
In closing, he thanked the organisers for acknowledging the impact he made during his time in office as NYCN State Chairman. “We created an impact with the little opportunity given to us,” he concluded.
