In a recent open address to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, veteran journalist and public commentator, Richard Akinnola, called on Wike to adopt a more cautious and humble approach in his political life. In his Facebook post, Akinnola drew on lessons from history to remind Wike of the transient nature of political power, citing examples of former political heavyweights who have faded from the public eye despite once dominating their states.

“See transformation at just 56, when wahala too much. Bro, calm down. Nobody remembers Eruobodo,” Akinnola referenced prominent Ibadan politicians, Lamidi Adedibu and Alhaji Yekini “Eruobodo” Adelakun, who were once major players in Oyo State politics. Despite their past influence, Akinnola noted that their legacy has largely been forgotten, underlining the ephemerality of political fame. He extended this to former Governors of Rivers State—Ada George, Peter Odili, Celestine Omehia, and Rotimi Amaechi—pointing out that they now lead quiet lives, away from the tumult of power struggles.

Expressing concern for Wike’s recent actions, Akinnola referred to a letter he had previously written on November 27, 2023, where he emphasized that Wike had been exceptionally favored by God in his political journey. He warned Wike not to push his luck by overreaching in his current role. Drawing parallels between the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, which many assumed would be quickly resolved but has dragged on for nearly three years, Akinnola suggested that Wike might be underestimating the challenges of holding on to power.

Akinnola also shared his impressions of Wike’s recent interview on Channels Television, saying that the former governor appeared vulnerable, as if “walking naked on the streets.” He concluded his post by praying for Wike to gain wisdom and humility, encouraging him to reflect on his actions before it is too late.

The Facebook post has generated widespread conversation, particularly among political observers who are closely watching Wike’s evolving political career and his role in the current administration.
