A Facebook post by renowned human rights advocate Leo Igwe has brought to light the alleged detention of a German citizen, Ulli Schauen, at the Liberty Gospel Church in Calabar Municipality, Cross River State. According to the post, Schauen is reportedly being held against his will, with claims that members of the church confiscated his phones and camera and damaged the tyres of his vehicle.

Igwe, who called for urgent intervention, mentioned efforts to contact the German Embassy in Nigeria to address the situation.

The incident has sparked immediate responses online, with users suggesting various courses of action. Damian Ugwu, a notable commentator, recommended involving local police, while Claus Larsen suggested contacting the German Foreign Office in Berlin and accessing Germany’s ELEFAND system, which tracks German citizens abroad.

Another responder, Jan-Christian Petersen, indicated that he had reached out to the German Embassy, which is reportedly now aware of the situation and taking action.

Details of the incident remain unclear, and it is yet to be confirmed what led to the alleged detention. Efforts are ongoing to verify the circumstances surrounding the claims and ensure the safety of the German citizens.
