In a shocking incident that took place a few weeks back, three students of the University of Calabar were abducted from their hostel. However, yesterday, 18th of April, 2024, there was some good news as these students were visited by Afufu Anthony, the SA Students Orientation to Cross River State Governor, Sen. Bassey Edet Otu.
The visit took place at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital where the students are undergoing treatment. During his visit, Afufu Anthony met with Ugwu Chukwuemeka, a 300-level student of the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology; and Damilola Dickson, a final-year student of the same department. Unfortunately, Ojang Precious Ebejin, a 200-level student of the Department of Medicine and Surgery had to be taken home by her parents for proper medical care and general recovery.
Afufu used the opportunity to call on the University of Calabar management, the Cross River State Government and philanthropists to assist these victims in offsetting their medical bills. The medical bills and other charges arising from their treatment have added to the ordeal that these students have already gone through.
In addition, Afufu Anthony thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof Florence Obi for the institution’s support and the security personnel who helped in the rescue operation. He also expressed his gratitude to the parents of these students for their love and care. However, he emphasized that the parents are in dire need of help and are calling for assistance.
The incident has raised security concerns among the students and parents of the University of Calabar.
