Rt. Hon. Dr Davies Etta, Deputy Leader of the Cross River State House of Assembly, has denied being an aggrieved lawmaker, dismissing reports suggesting that he and other legislators were opposed to Governor Bassey Edet Otu and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Etta, who represents Abi State Constituency, made the clarification in a rejoinder following a report describing some lawmakers as aggrieved over the party’s ticket arrangements and suggesting that they intended to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while withholding support for other APC candidates in the state.
He acknowledged meeting with Hon. Innocent Egede, National Director of Strategic Deployment and Implementation of the Relax Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria support group, explaining that the engagement was partly aimed at securing integration into the group’s national leadership structure and contributing to its mobilisation activities in support of Tinubu.
The lawmaker said his participation in the meeting should not be interpreted as opposition to the governor or the party’s leadership. He also explained that he and the House Leader, Rt. Hon. Francis Asuquo Ekpenyong, attended a second meeting with the support group after an earlier engagement involving some first-term lawmakers.
According to Etta, he remains satisfied with the opportunity to serve his constituency and does not consider a third term an entitlement. He maintained that the question of securing another ticket should not be used to define his relationship with the party or its leadership.
“Governor Bassey Edet Otu and all APC candidates in my constituency remain my candidates, and I will work for their emergence in the 2027 elections,” he stated.
