It is possible for Nigerian youths to venture into politics and succeed even without practicing occultism, says Dr Michael Nku Abuo, Special Adviser to Cross River State Governor on interventions.
He made the remark while accepting an appointment by the Nigeria Police Force to chair a special committee aimed at crime prevention through public enlightenment, youth mentorship, advocacy and community partnerships, in Cross River State.
Dr Abuo, who is also the State Co-ordinator of African Union Development Agency – New Partnerships for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD), reportedly secured the appointment shortly after the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, flagged off the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Social Vices (POCACOV), recently in Abuja.
In his letter of appointment conveyed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Cross River State command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the force expressed confidence in Abuo’s leadership capacity to direct the campaign in the state.
The letter read in part, “We would like to respectfully seek your consent to nominate you as the Chairman of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and other Social Vices (POCACOV), Cross River State chapter.
However, in his acceptance speech, Abuo described the appointment as an honor; promising to justify the confidence reposed in him.
While commending the IGP for the initiative and finding him worthy to serve in the team, he charged Nigerian youth to steer clear of cultism and drug abuse in order to have good success.
According to Abuo, Nigerian youths are intelligent and can succeed in all human endeavors including politics even without engaging in cultism or other social vices.
“I commend the IGP for this very wonderful initiative to be proactive rather than being reactive. It’s always easier and better to prevent than to cure.
“I consider it an honor to be selected out of many to drive this initiative through your office in the state. I am not a man who is scared of challenges.
“In essence, anyone who believes in me or aligns with my philosophy can actually venture into politics; impact lives even without practicing occultism or engaging in other social vices. It is actually not by my power; it’s by the grace of God. I am not a perfect person, but God has always made himself manifest in what I do,” he stated.
The campaign brings together government agencies, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations among other stakeholders to discourage all forms of social vices while promoting positive values, responsible citizenship and sustainable peace in communities, the letter further read.
