Akpanke Dismisses Contract Racketeering Allegations As Mischief

The media office further alleged that the renewed circulation of the matter, which it said had been amicably resolved, was a deliberate attempt to malign the lawmaker’s reputation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Media Office of Hon Peter Akpanke, Member representing Obudu/Obanliku/Bekwarra Constituency in the House of Representatives, has dismissed allegations of contract racketeering circulating on social media, describing them as misleading, mischievous, and a calculated attempt at blackmail.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the office clarified that Hon Akpanke was a well-established contractor before his election into the House of Representatives in 2023, having executed several federal and state government projects through legitimate channels. It stated that upon assuming office, the lawmaker fully complied with legal provisions barring public office holders from active contracting.

The statement explained that a facilitation arrangement existed between Hon Akpanke and Chief Clement Anunwa, who sought access to contract opportunities through Akpanke’s professional network. According to the release, the arrangement was based on an agreed facilitation fee and was later formalised through a legal agreement after some opportunities failed to materialise. The document currently circulating online was described as part of this legally executed agreement.

Addressing claims surrounding the N47 million mini-stadium project in Kitting, Obanliku Local Government Area, the office stressed that the contract was legitimately awarded by the Federal Ministry of Sports and is currently under execution. It firmly rejected insinuations that the project was awarded as compensation or quid pro quo, noting that government payments are subject to strict procurement processes, verification, and certification of work done.

The media office further alleged that the renewed circulation of the matter, which it said had been amicably resolved, was a deliberate attempt to malign the lawmaker’s reputation ahead of the 2027 general elections. It urged the public to disregard what it described as unfounded claims and remain focused on verifiable facts and ongoing developmental efforts in the constituency, reaffirming Hon Akpanke’s commitment to effective representation and service delivery.
