“Anambra is the heart of the Southeastern states,” Governor Otu said.

The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) can secure victory in Anambra State in the forthcoming November 8 governorship election.

Governor Otu, who was appointed Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee for Anambra State, made this assertion on Saturday evening during his opening remarks at the party’s primary election held at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka.

Addressing 1,630 delegates and numerous party officials, Governor Otu urged APC members to unite behind whoever emerges as the party’s candidate, emphasizing that collective commitment and unity are essential to achieving success in the main election.

“Anambra is the heart of the Southeastern states,” Governor Otu said. “We must present a candidate who can win the general election and align Anambra with the government at the centre. The APC already governs two states in the Southeast — winning a third would be a major victory and a strategic gain for the region.”

He described the primary election as a crucial moment in the party’s expansion efforts and assured delegates of a transparent and credible process. He revealed that all aspirants had met the previous evening and unanimously agreed to support the eventual winner in the interest of party unity.

“Our economy is improving, governance structures are strengthening, and the process of nation-building is progressing. It is time for Anambra to be part of this national transformation,” he stated.

Governor Otu called for renewed focus and a shared sense of purpose among APC stakeholders, noting that the Southeast stands to benefit immensely from greater integration with the central government.

As of press time, voting was ongoing well into the night without any incidents. Many delegates and observers expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct of the process. Independent observers, as well as representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), were present to monitor the primary.

The mood at the venue remained upbeat, with party members expressing optimism that, with the right candidate and unified support, Anambra State could be brought under the APC’s fold.

Governor Otu’s leadership and presence at the event have been widely praised as a testament to the APC’s seriousness and strategic intent in expanding its influence across the Southeast.
