Cross River Acting Governor, Dr Peter Odey has distanced the state from a statement credited to the Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum opposing President Bola Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State.
In a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Fred Abua dated 20th March 2025, the Acting Governor clarified that he was neither consulted nor involved in the issuance of the statement attributed to the forum.
“The position of the forum does not reflect the stance of the Cross River State Government,” Odey stated. “We fully align with the decision of Mr. President, which was made in the best interest of national security, peace, and stability.”
He emphasized that every responsible government must prioritize the protection of lives and property, and when circumstances demand decisive action, such measures should be supported for the greater good of democracy and national unity.
“Cross River State remains committed to upholding constitutional governance and will continue to collaborate with the Federal Government to ensure peace, security, and stability across the country,” the Acting Governor affirmed.
