A politically driven sensitisation and good governance initiative, De-Caucus has been launched in Cross River State. The group aims to nurture leadership, foster collaboration, and drive grassroots mobilisation across the 18 local government areas of the state.
De-Caucus envisions a society where transformative leadership will inspire progress, community empowerment, and ensure sustainable development. The theme for the event which was held Thursday in Axari Hotel Calabar is “Season of Sweetness: Driving Governance to the People”.
Inaugurating the group, the Board of Trustees Chairman, High Chief Goddy Nyiam, Managing Director of the Cross River Waterboard Company Limited said the group has come to stay.
The Board of Trustees Chairman of the group noted that “the group is open to members of all political parties.”
Admonishing all present to have faith in the current administration, he said “Truly this is the season of sweetness. The success of De-Caucus rests on our shoulders.”
The keynote speaker, Pastor Bong Duke, Vice Chairman of the State Planning Commission described the group as a “Metaphor for good governance.” Adding that “governance must be forward thinking because it is a solemn endeavour.”
The Vice Chairman of the State Planning Commission described the theme as “Timely and inspiring. It shows the yearning for a governance method that is people-centred.”
He concluded by maintaining that “The season of sweetness is about making the citizens feel in control.”
Rt. Honourable Hilary Bisong, the member representing Boki 2 in the State House of Assembly while giving a goodwill message stated “From what I am seeing, the youths are ready for change.”
He urged the Local Government Coordinators to be trained on the rudiments of leadership to prepare them for success.
The guest speaker, Mrs Justina Ovat in her paper overemphasized the importance of servant leadership.
She asserted that governance has to be participatory. “Equip young people to actively participate not passively,” Mrs Ovat reiterated.
Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Engr Eyareosowo Etta while speaking urged all to be “Intentional about devolution of power and ensure government is rooted through transparency and accountability”.
Furthermore, he said “Every voice must be heard. Let’s foster collaboration and grassroots mobilisation.”
In his welcome address, Prince Olumba, coordinator of Cross Riverians in Diaspora said he was pleased with the attendance of the event. He encouraged members of the group to be steadfast.
