The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) has officially released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2024 Local Government Elections. By the powers conferred on the Commission by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended) and the Cross River State Law No. 2 (2002), the election process is set to commence on September 25, 2024.
According to the timetable, party primaries and resolutions of disputes arising from the primaries will also take place on September 25, 2024, in compliance with Section 7(a-b) of the CROSIEC Guidelines.
The next phase will see political parties presenting their list of candidates to CROSIEC starting from October 1, 2024. Candidates will be required to submit forms LGE 001 and 002, as well as other documentation related to their candidacy, with the final submission of candidate lists slated for October 29, 2024.
The collection of nomination forms, which includes forms CROSIEC 005a and CROSIEC 006b, will take place between October 21 and 28, 2024. This will be followed by the validation of candidates’ particulars by electoral officers on November 1, 2024.
Subsequently, the Commission will conduct the process of validating the particulars of candidates by November 7, 2024, ensuring compliance with the legal framework governing the elections. The final publication of nominated candidates is scheduled for November 8, 2024. The election will be held on November 23, 2024.
With the release of the timetable, political parties and stakeholders in Cross River State are now expected to mobilize and prepare for the forthcoming local government elections, which promise to shape the leadership of the grassroots government structures across the state.
