The Cross River State Government has announced the commencement of the first round of the 2025 National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDS 1) aimed at combating the spread of poliomyelitis. According to an official notification released on April 14, the exercise will run from Saturday, May 3 to Tuesday, May 6, 2025, across all 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
The campaign, spearheaded by the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and development partners, targets children between the ages of 0 to 59 months. The oral polio vaccine will be administered free of charge in government health facilities as well as designated temporary posts within communities.
Dr Vivien Mesembe Otu, Director General of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, emphasized that parents and caregivers are encouraged to ensure their children participate in the exercise. Health workers will be conducting house-to-house vaccinations and will also be stationed at strategic locations including churches, mosques, schools, markets, and recreational centers.
