The Obol Lopon of Idomi, His Royal Highness Obol Ofem Inah Edet, has urged calm and unity within the Idomi community, calling on aggrieved APC aspirants and their supporters to accept the community’s and the party’s choice for the next councilor, Eteng Ofem Inyang. The royal father spoke through His Royal Highness, Arikpo Eyong Ekubi after a meeting with the council and the aggrieved aspirants, emphasizing that the choice was based on the community’s zoning system.

The former Cross River State Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Professor John Inyang, was accused of imposing his younger brother during the primaries. He denied the allegations when contacted by our newsroom.

Rolling out the decision taken by the council, he stated “The meeting ended very gloriously and happily. Not just because he’s a brother to the commissioner, but as of right now, in the zoning system we have here, it falls on him, the would-be councilor,” His Royal Highness explained. The endorsement of Inyang has caused some unrest among a few aspirants, but the Obol Lopon expressed confidence that the matter has been resolved amicably.

“We have calmed them, if they were aggrieved before now, the end result is that they are happy and have accepted Obol Lopon’s advice,” he said, noting that the meeting ended on a positive note, with all parties willing to work together moving forward.

The royal father further assured the community that any mistakes in the process would be addressed in the future, while the traditional council would continue to guide the community with wisdom. “Wherever there has been a mistake, it will be corrected in future, and the Obol of Idomi, sitting in council, have all offered pieces of advice. They are all our children, and we will not allow anybody to do anything that will drag to chaos and a bit of anarchy,” he stated.

He called for the creation of more political wards.
