Climate and Sustainable Development Network, CSDEVNET, led by Ugah Godwin Unimke, South-South Coordinator in commemoration of 2023 Climate Change Week, 20th November, 2023, organized a workshop to seek climate justice on how to sustain the grassroots movement for action.

The network is in partnership with Pan African Climate Justice, PACJA, Africa Activists for Climate Justice, and Green Planet Initiative International among others.

The keynote address was made by Johanna Hannu who represented Mr. Abu Stephen, the National Network Coordinator for CSDEVNET.

She lauded CSDEVNET which is a designated national platform of the PACJA for taking the lead in organizing the workshop and for its role as the driving force behind climate change advocacy in Nigeria with over 300 membership organizations spanning the six geopolitical zones.

She welcomed everyone and encouraged everyone to actively participate, share their insights, and contribute to the development of policies that will shape the nation’s agricultural sustainability and green future.

During the workshop, the South-South Coordinator gave an overview of CSDEVNET on Nigeria’s climate change act.

According to him “CSDEVNET is an accredited organization with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC, the Green Climate Fund, GCF, United Religions Initiative, URI, and works closely with the Economic Community of West African State, ECOWAS, including Federal Government of Nigeria to unify and coordinate isolated civil society efforts on climate change advocacy in Nigeria to ensure that people-centered mechanisms are accorded desirable attention and relevance as climate change is increasingly mainstreamed into national and global poverty reduction and sustainable development strategies and actions.”

The vision of CSDEVNET is to secure an environment free from the adverse impacts of climate change with sustainable development, equity and justice for all.

The workshop was interactive as questions were raised and answered and ideas were shared.

In conclusion, Mr. Godwin urged everyone to join efforts in combating climate change as participants were seen carrying placards with inscriptions as ‘Climate Action’, ‘Vote for Climate Action’, ‘Climate Positive’, ‘I Want Some Action’, ‘Stop Climate Change’, ‘Climate Change Is Real’ among others.
