As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, the City Boy Movement, a support group backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has appointed former Miss Heritage Africa, Queen Benedicta Akpana Ogbang, as its Women Leader in Cross River State.

The appointment was formalised in Abuja on February 24, 2026, through an official letter signed by the Movement’s Director-General, Shoga Francis-Oluwatosin.

According to the letter, the appointment recognises Akpana’s commitment to women’s mobilisation and grassroots leadership. She previously served as Executive Protocol Officer to the immediate past governor of Cross River State.

“On behalf of the leadership of the City Boy Movement, and in recognition of your passion for women’s mobilisation and community leadership, I am pleased to appoint you as the State Women Leader of the City Boy Movement for Cross River State,” the letter stated.

It added that in her new capacity, she will lead and coordinate women-related activities of the Movement across the state, ensuring effective grassroots engagement and policy advocacy.

As State Women Leader, Akpana is expected to coordinate the Movement’s women structures at the state, local government, and ward levels; mobilise women for civic participation and political education; and implement programmes and directives from the Zonal Coordinator and the National Women Leader’s Office.

Reacting to the appointment, Akpana described the role as both an honour and a challenge, noting that her passion for women’s political participation has remained strong even after leaving the pageantry stage.

She said the position would provide a broader platform to advance advocacy for women’s inclusion in leadership and governance.

Akpana also pledged to work with political and community stakeholders across the state to mobilise women in support of President Tinubu, Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
