To strengthen the administration of Nigeria’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr Hillard Eta as Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board. This appointment, which takes effect on January 19, 2025, was confirmed in a letter signed by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The appointment is in line with Section 3 (2) of the NYSC Act, Cap N84, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, which outlines the statutory framework for the leadership of the NYSC Governing Board. As Chairman, Mr Eta is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective oversight and governance of the national scheme that has been a cornerstone of youth development and national integration since its inception.
According to the letter, Mr Eta’s appointment terms and conditions will adhere to the “Special Category” of the Categorization of Boards of Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies, and Statutory Corporations, as stipulated in Circular Ref. No. SWC/S/04/S.310/T/65 of April 8, 2016.
