The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has refuted allegations of unfair distribution of palliatives in Cross River State, following media reports suggesting that some critical groups in the state were sidelined.
In a press statement issued by Seledi Thompson-Wakama, NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, the Commission labeled the reports as false and insisted that Niger Deltans across the nine mandate states, including Cross River State, received their palliatives with “joy and gratitude.”
“The NDDC did not distribute money, as falsely claimed, but rather palliatives and the list of beneficiaries was duly approved by the NDDC Board,” Thompson-Wakama clarified, dismissing accusations of using unauthorized lists and diverting funds, calling the story an attempt by “mischief-makers” to undermine the Commission’s efforts.
Highlighting the NDDC’s commitment to transparency and accountability, Thompson-Wakama noted that the Commission has engaged global consultancy firm KPMG to enhance its corporate governance, “We have established a new institutional culture anchored on sound ethics and good corporate governance.”
The statement concluded by assuring the public and stakeholders that the NDDC Board and Management remain focused on their mission to make a tangible difference in the Niger Delta region, undeterred by what it termed as distractions.
