The Afrihealth Optonet Association (AHOA) has unveiled plans for a Town Hall Meeting aimed at enhancing meaningful and evidence-based engagement of civil society organizations (CSOs) and indigenous populations in the 2025 United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF).
Scheduled for December 24, 2024, the meeting will take place virtually at 2:00 PM WAT (9:00 AM ET/1:00 PM GMT/4:00 PM EAT/8:00 PM Bangkok). The event, themed “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” will spotlight key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Life Below Water (SDG 14), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
The Agenda
1. Inauguration of the 2025 AHOA Advisory Committees on UN HLPF and related multilateral gatherings.
2. A review of current CSO engagement by governments ahead of the 2025 HLPF.
3. Efforts to ensure meaningful civil society involvement in global development events.
4. Country-level updates on CSO participation in the HLPF processes.
AHOA also announced that 39 countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, India, and Germany, are expected to present Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) at the 2025 forum.
Dr Uzodinma Adirieje, AHOA’s National Coordinator, in a statement, emphasized the association’s commitment to health, biodiversity, climate actions, and sustainable development, stating: “This platform will amplify civil society voices and strengthen partnerships critical for achieving the 2030 Agenda.”
