Cross River Police Enforce Movement Restrictions For LG Elections

The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the police for immediate response.

Ahead of the Local Government Elections in Cross River State set for Saturday, November 2, 2024, the Cross River State Police Command has announced a restriction of movement across all 18 Local Government Areas. This directive, issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, will be enforced from midnight until 6:00 pm on election day.

The Police Command explained that the restriction is intended to ensure a secure and orderly electoral process, allowing citizens to cast their votes in a peaceful environment. Only individuals on essential duties—such as medical personnel, accredited election observers, and security personnel—will be exempt from the restriction. All other movements within the state will be strictly prohibited throughout the election period.

The Police Command has urged the public to comply with the movement restrictions and refrain from any activities that may jeopardize the peace or integrity of the elections. In collaboration with other security agencies, the Police will implement strict measures to ensure the safety of lives and property and to maintain order during the electoral exercise.

Commissioner Grimah, in the statement issued by SP Ugbo Irene, Police Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, appealed to residents to remain law-abiding and to cooperate fully with law enforcement. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to facilitating a credible and peaceful election.

“We are committed to a secure election where every eligible citizen can participate without fear,” stated CP Grimah. “We urge everyone to respect this movement restriction for the benefit of all.”
