Mr Enyam Joseph-Kelvin, the Special Assistant on Student Affairs to the Governor of Cross River State, has significantly promoted inclusive access to education by advocating for state-owned institutions to be included on the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) portal. This development follows his recent inauguration as a National Students Management Council (NSMC) member, where he represents Cross River State.
During a strategic meeting with NELFUND’s management, Enyam expressed his appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s dedication to making education more accessible to Nigerian students.
He highlighted the unique challenges faced by disadvantaged students in Cross River State, particularly due to the exclusion of state-owned institutions from the NELFUND portal, which has limited their access to much-needed educational funding.
In his remarks, Enyam, a former UNICAL SUG President extended his gratitude to Governor Bassey Otu and Education Commissioner Senator Stephen Odey, for their successful efforts in ensuring that the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) was listed on the NELFUND portal. This inclusion marks a critical milestone in expanding access to education for students in the state.
Mr Akintunde Sawyerr, the Managing Director and CEO of NELFUND confirmed the listing of the University of Cross River State on the portal and encouraged Enyam to assist in uploading student data from other state-owned institutions in the region. This step is seen as crucial in ensuring that more students benefit from the funding opportunities provided by NELFUND.
Enyam pledged to work closely with tertiary institutions across Cross River State to facilitate the inclusion of their students on the NELFUND portal. He expressed his appreciation for Sawyerr’s commitment to collaboration and emphasized the importance of ensuring that educational opportunities are accessible to all students, regardless of their socio-economic background.
