A local restaurant owned by Mrs Mary Abue suffered significant damage yesterday (Tuesday) when a tree fell on the establishment at approximately 10:00 AM. The incident occurred at MCC (Effio-Ette) in the triangle area, Calabar, Cross River State resulting in severe damage to the restaurant’s roof, ceiling, and structure.
The tree was cut down by men of CUDA (Calabar Urban Development Authority) who were on routine.
According to an eyewitness, those responsible for felling the tree claimed they were acting on government directives and refused to provide further details or engage in discussions.
According to Mrs Abue, she had visited the Ministry of Environment to address the issue and was informed that the City Urban Development Authority operates independently from the Ministry.
The damage caused by the incident has disrupted business operations at the restaurant, leaving no space for customers to sit and leading to a loss of already prepared food.
Mrs Abue expressed her frustration over the lack of coordination and communication between government agencies, which has resulted in considerable financial loss and inconvenience.
Authorities have yet to comment on the incident or provide a timeline for resolving the issue.
